Curriculum
Classes offered include:
- Introduction to Movement & Music- Specifically designed for boys and girls ages 3 through 6. An all encompassing program to introduce students to the basics of ballet, jazz, tap, and creative movement. Movement activites, songs, rhythm exercises, musical instruments, parachute play, improvisations, and children’s books that focus on movement and related activities are included in this introductory dance program. Classes are divided into specific age groups and are limited in size for individualized attention. All Introduction to Movement & Music students participate in our annual performance giving each student the opportunity for a full dance experience.
- Ballet – Courses range from introductory ballet for the beginner to intermediate and advanced levels. Ballet emphasizes correct development of barre, center, and allegro work, with an emphasis on port de bras to encourage proper usage of the arms, head and body, body placement, muscle development and coordination.
- Jazz – A style of dance emphasizing body lines, flexible torso and isolations with emphasis on theatrical dance as well as social jazz of today. Classes begin at age seven.
- Tap - Theatrical dance distinguished by percussive footwork that marks precise rhythmic patterns and emphasizes coordination. Classes begin at age seven.
- Modern – Dance, including natural movements such as breathing, surrendering to gravity (falling), and defying gravity (jumping or suspension), as well as the concepts of contraction and release. Classes offered for students ages 11 through adult. Creative Movement curriculum explores these ideals for the younger dancer ages 7 – 10 with an introduction to modern dance.
- Mommy/Daddy & Me – Specially designed class for children ages 18 months to 3 years along with an adult, to develop and grow in creativity, balance, coordination, and socialization through movement, music, games, and prop play!
- Healthy Living – An exercise & dance program for moms and teens to increase cardiovascular endurance, burn calories, strengthen bones, and to improve posture, body alignment, grace, poise, self-confidence and sociability. Join us in the pursuit of better health!
